an Ipad + Goodnotes + a 36 yr young 3rd semester Nursing Student from struggle to Love story8/22/2023 (Put a finger down if you decided to go back to school, Nursing school at 34 with a later in life ADHD diagnosis, Financially struggling, animal rescuing, mom, wife determined to figure out how to thrive) Are you going back to college after hardly surviving high school? How bad do you feel the struggle between organization and chaos? Finding ways to thrive and not get lost in the chaos seems to have become a mission of mine but without the weight of carrying the literal world on my shoulders. Hello fellow students, late diagnosed ADHDr’s and friends! I will soon start my third semester of Nursing School now 36. While life prepared me for Nursing, I am not sure anything could have prepared me for Nursing School. I love pen (Ssssss, highlighters, markers, gel pens) and paper (notebookssss) If ya know ya know! The thought of cute paper notes and all the highlighters seems FUN but fun can be heavy and overwhelming and for people like me it can leave you lost in the chaos especially when it comes to studying. That can be a problem as it is important to stay organized. Who knew? Though I started with an iPad it has taken me over two years of school to really start figuring out the capabilities. Who says an old dog can’t learn new tricks? So, what’s the trick, well besides the iPad is…. Goodnotes (which I hear is also now available on Android now, but I haven’t been able to try it and I am not sure which devices would be able to adhere to the writing part of it though I shall look into it!) The biggest bonus to actually utilizing all the capabilities is no more binders of slides to lug around, you don’t have to carry a notebook for each subject. You don’t even need to pack your pen bin to get all the colors! If you get digital books, you may not even have to pack those either! I guess you could say it’s good for the environment! While creating a physical binder this year and thinking of way I could minimize to not get lost in the chaos. A lightbulb flickered that maybe I could create a digital notebook or “binder” much like a physical one to store my slides and notes. Then I thought of the hyperlinked planner I use in goodnotes that I had purchased off Etsy when I first started Nursing School. Then the light bulb really lit up and since then I have built about ten. As it has spiraled, I think I have finally created one that I feel will best help us ADHD brained students the best staying organized throughout each semester while minimizing the chaos and still letting us be creative all at the weight of an iPad. Follow along to find out how we can use this new notebook to stay organized this semester! You can conveniently store 6 subjects worth of slides, notes and flip back and forth through them like a physical notebook or use the hyperlinks and be where you need to be in a couple clicks. All at the weight of an iPad. I don’t know about you but I hate having to carry what feels like whole desk to class with me. You can take notes right on your slides that you have uploaded to goodnotes just as if you would if you had printed them off. Goodnotes also now has the ability to record while taking notes during lecture. (If your school allows that) Down here on each divider in this notebook is a Calendar |Planner section so you have the ability to upload the digital planner of your choice to that section and also have it conveniently available within a few clicks. And I have tested it and hyperlinks for both the notebook and added planner will still work! In the finals section I have created six dividers- One for each subject of the notebook. You can easily compile notes for finals by using the hyperlinks jumping back and forth between the subject section itself and the Finals Section to compile notes in order to study for finals. One of my favorites! Follow along though as we plan to show you many of the tools within goodnotes that will help you along the way. Once it has been uploaded it will usually open. You will use the pencil “button” to switch between accessing the hyperlinks and the writing/editing/notes tools. While in the hyperlink mode I will show you how to navigate the sections of the notebook. In this note book there are (usually 4-9) dividers, Within each divider (of all versions of the semester notebooks) are 16 tabs-theoretically one for each week of a semester though technically you could use these as you please. It takes lot of time to print, hole punch, label and file all these slides and notes. Each and every single week. I wanted to create something that wasn’t such a hassle each and every semester. And while labeling your notebook at the beginning of each semester may take some preparation it can save hoards of time and preparation each week while attending classes, clinical or whatever your situation may intel. Picture it like you would set up a physical binder or notebook. I would have my subjects and then within each subject I would place my slides I printed for that week and paper notes in order of the weeks that we went over them. Well now you have that plus some all in ONE NOTEBOOK on goodnotes (or notability if you wish, though I haven’t played around with it as much I do know that it is capable) You can add pages to your planner a couple of ways.
When you are on the Divider or page and you want to add pages. Click the paper with the plus sign in the upper right corner, the paper template will pop and you can choose which one you would like to add. You can also use the same paper with plus sign to import your slide or other notes/papers/files that you may want in that particular divider or section of your notebook. Or you can click on the four squares at the top left side of goodnotes and all of the pages and dividers of your notebook will appear. At the bottom of the thumbnail of each photo is a drop down arrow. Click on that arrow. There you will see the same option you saw before and here you can choose to add blank template pages for notes if you wish or add a slides file you have saved. Once you have notes papers added to your divider and say you are in class taking notes you simply have to swipe the page up or over depending on how you have your settings to add another notes page to continue taking your notes. In the planner section you could do the same. Go to the planner section (calendar appearing hyperlink) click on the paper with the plus sign to import your planner, find the planner in your files and upload. You can also add pages from notebooks you already have within your goodnotes files. The options are really limitless and if you put in a little time to learn the tools I promise it has the potential to make your life especially school life go a lot more smoothly.

Author: Lindy StubbsHey! Welcome! Let me tell you a little bit about me so you can decide if you’re in the right place! I am 36, a mom, wife, student nurse, animal lover. I recently changed paths in life, I would say career paths but animal rescue wasn’t exactly a career for me. It barely paid the bills. My heart is in helping so after a year long hiatus from animal rescue while feeling completely lost in the world. Animal Rescue is draining to a level I can’t express and never ending. I realized I had been working so hard for change but the change wasn’t coming fast enough and at the cost of my family. Once I stepped away and after a year pulled myself out of depression, I missed the people I met in animal rescue the most, the people we helped and the people I worked alongside. I decided I could still give back in nursing yet provide a life for my family and my own animals that I could be proud of. The next thing I knew I was in Nursing School! So here I am. <3 3rd Semester. Here I come. ArchivesCategories |
